For families and executors
Firearms left by someone who has died
You do not have to work out the rules alone. Leave your number and we will phone you within one business day to explain what happens next.
What we do for the estate
- The police paperworkWe prepare the Regulation 103 inventory, the notice to the Central Firearms Registry and the three-monthly reports for the executor, and apply for a temporary authorisation where one is needed.
- Safe keeping with a licensed dealerFirearms are held at a licensed dealer's custody site. Each one is identified, photographed and receipted on arrival. Firearmdesk itself never stores, carries or sells a firearm.
- Then the executor decidesFrom the options the law allows for the estate: transfer to a licensed heir, sale through a licensed dealer, or surrender to the police. Nothing is decided for you.
Our fees are published, in full, with a worked example. See the fees
What to do now
- Do not move the firearms or hand them to anyone. Not to a relative, a friend or a dealer, until the arrangements are confirmed.
- Keep them locked where they are.Leave them in the safe and keep the keys safe. Do not lend, sell or give them to anyone.
- Ask the estate's attorney, if there is one. They will tell you whether anything needs to be reported to the police straight away.
